From market sentiment to government policies, Canada's young are increasingly treated as disposable—and they must insist that their interests be prioritised.
For whatever it’s worth, I am one of the ‘older generation’ that the writers have referred to in this article. Rather than quietly clutching my riches and voting for the party that would help me to do that, I voted Conservative in the last elections and support all that you say. I would be ready to accept giving up my OAS and live on savings accumulated carefully over the decades. So, not all of us over-65’s in Canada fall into the category of self-serving you describe. Above all and foremost, we need a change of federal government here in Canada in order to bring in some needed relief to our younger generations.
This is very hard to read. I guess this is an opportunity for all the boomers like me to claim we weren't part of the problem. But it is quite clear to me that ours is the first generation that put self actualization in front of our young. We may not have actively participated in this tragedy, but we watched it happen without going to the barricades. I am probably more at fault because I knew it was happening. I did use to make speeches at City Council saying that we were destroying the future of our young people every time we turned down another opportunity for housing. And mostly they just laughed at me and called me a developers' shill. Several times I said that one day the young people are going to arrive and they are going to be angry. And here you are. Did the boomers who claim innocence protest housing in their neighbourhood? It used to be religion that was optimized for family formation that maintained the balance. But that was too inconvenient. But the same sanctimonious entitlement of us boomers and the dumb ideas about economics and society are still popping up in the young. I SO hope there are enough younger people that can be committed enough and strong enough to get us out of this horrible situation we are handing to the next generation. Accurate. Although I’m not sure if AI is responsible for youth unemployment. Government policy putting the squeeze on employers is a huge reason why they’re not hiring. As for these Boom Booms whining how they’re the exception, whatever. The only solution here is to get our younger generation out and voting.

I have voted consistently for the most conservative candidate for longer than the author has been alive.
My wife and I don’t require a lecture on selfishness or sacrifice.
I have never allowed a Canadian Political Party or candidate to pit me or my interests against those of my fellow Canadians.
I have railed against excessive taxation, debt, socialized medicine, activists posing as educators, supply management, interprovincial trade barriers, free trade, the price system, trapped natural resources and ideologically captured governments.
I belong to the Conservative Party. I am on the board of my local EDA. Is have given time, effort, shoe leather, funds, and support during both election, and in between.
Yes, young folks need to find a voice; but that voice need not exist in order to disparage older Canadians.
